Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 21, 2026

Overview

This privacy policy covers the Ada Chrome Extension, available on the Chrome Web Store. Ada lets you save web pages, text, and links for AI-powered classification and organization.

We believe in transparency. This policy explains exactly what data the extension collects, why, and what we do with it. The short version: we only collect what you explicitly choose to save, and we never sell or share your data.

What Data We Collect

The Ada extension only collects data when you actively trigger a save. Nothing is collected passively or in the background.

When you click “Save”

  • Page URL — the address of the page you're saving
  • Page title — the title of the page
  • Favicon — the site's icon for display purposes
  • Open Graph metadata — description and preview image tags, extracted only at the moment you save

When you save a text selection

  • Selected text — the text you highlighted and chose to save via right-click
  • Source URL and title — where the selection came from

Optional data

  • Notes — if you type a personal note (up to 500 characters) when saving, that text is included

Stored locally on your device

  • Authentication token — a JWT session token stored in chrome.storage.local to keep you signed in
  • Theme preference — your dark/light mode choice, stored locally

What We Do Not Collect

To be clear about what the extension does not do:

  • Does not track or access your browsing history
  • Does not run on any page unless you click the extension or use the right-click menu
  • Does not collect data passively or in the background
  • Does not access your cookies, bookmarks, or saved passwords
  • Does not use analytics, telemetry, or tracking pixels
  • Does not store your passwords (authentication is session-based)

How We Use Your Data

Saved data is sent to the Ada backend via authenticated API calls over HTTPS. We use your saved content for two purposes:

  • Display — showing your saved items in the Ada dashboard
  • AI classification — automatically categorizing and organizing your saves using our backend AI pipeline

Your data is never used to train AI models. Classification runs on your content to serve you, not to improve a model.

Data Storage & Security

Your saved data is stored on Ada's backend infrastructure hosted at *.insforge.app. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).

Authentication tokens stored locally in chrome.storage.local are scoped to the extension and not accessible by websites or other extensions.

Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your data with any third parties. Your saved content stays between you and the Ada service. No advertising networks, no data brokers, no analytics providers receive your data from the extension.

Data Retention

Your saved data is retained in your Ada account for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual saved items at any time from the Ada dashboard.

If you delete your Ada account, all associated data — saved items, notes, classifications, and account information — is permanently deleted from our servers.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — view everything you've saved in the Ada dashboard
  • Delete individual items or your entire account
  • Export your data upon request
  • Revoke access by uninstalling the extension and/or deleting your account

Deleting your account removes all of your data. There is no retention period after deletion.

Chrome Permissions

The extension requests only the permissions it needs:

  • activeTab — to read the current page's URL, title, and metadata when you trigger a save
  • contextMenus — to add a “Save to Ada” option in the right-click menu
  • storage — to store your auth token and theme preference locally

The content script that extracts page metadata only runs when you actively trigger a save — it does not run in the background or on page load.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes that affect how your data is handled, we will notify you through the extension or via email.
